This presentation will discuss the Open Source program mythtv, and will cover the following topics:

*What is mythtv, and why should my wife care?

*What parts do I need to build a functioning mythtv system?

*I have the parts, now where do I get the software (and how do I install it)?

*How do I use mythtv to manage my multi-media experiences?

*How many plugins can one program have?

*This is nice, but I want it to do this...

**in short, mythtv is an open source DVR (Digital Video Recorder) that allows for tivo like functionality. (and lots more besides) This piece of software takes some knowhow to set up and to get it working well enough for those who are "less than geeky" to be able to use on a daily basis.

this presentation will extol the virtues of this program and will also give some hints on how to convince the better halves on using it.

it will be presented by 2 linux geeks with 2 separate install expieriences, one via gentoo and a mac mini, the other using mythbuntu and mythdora.

About the presenters

James Frandsen (overstock.com)

James has been using mythtv for an number of years. He started out using an old pentium 3 computer and has moved on to a media server in the office and front end machines with every television. Although he has not submitted code for this open source project, his years of experimentation with the software and hardware have made him semi fanatical about mythtv. (just ask his wife!).

David DeMan (Seek Mobile Interactive)

David has been tinkering with Linux and Open source in general for about 10 years and stopped using non-OSS operating systems about 7 years ago, and has been using MythTV for around 5 years (since 0.17?).
